I chose to select a song to annotate from when I
was a kid, and one that everyone knows. I used to sing this song all the time,
and I remember always belting the lyrics out at the top of my lungs while some
family member played it on the guitar. This song has so much meaning through
the lyrics, and I never had really connected it to poetry before. Now after
learning about poetry I understand how they tie together.
The mood that is expressed in
this poem in my opinion is being full of joy. This very happy song has poetic
devices that I had not known until learning about the new lesson last week. For
example, "Where trouble melts like lemon drops" is a metaphor and is personification. Those are two very familiar subjects that I have already
known, but did not recognize them in the lyrics when I was singing.
Another would be "Blue birds fly" which is an example of
alliteration. Alliteration is a new term that I recently learned, but I found
it looking back at the song I caught sight of. The "B" in blue and
birds contributes to the happy sound. Lastly I identified assonance in
"Wonderful world", the "O" is a full song that also plays a
factor into the happy and pleasant mood of the song. It is very remarkable to
re-read over lyrics that I have known forever and notice these new poetic
devices intertwined through the writing.
