Regret

I think one of the main, big ideas in this story is regret. I feel as if all character feel a sense of regret at some point in the story. Pain, craziness, and the loss of many were all caused by regret. Although some of the characters may not have admitted regret, a lot of their actions reflect it. Most of the actions done by the characters in Macbeth were out of rage and done impulsively, so I think regret was bound to be felt.

I think the whole start of regret in the story began when Macbeth first heard the witches tell him he will be king. Right then, after he found out the witches were telling the truth, he knew that he would do anything in his power to win kingship. Duncan a very loyal friend who trusted Macbeth very much was then betrayed. With the help of Lady Macbeth, Macbeth and her plotted the murder of Duncan. After doing the action that he truly didn't want to do, which was more pushed to do it by his wife, he began to regret it. He regretted it so much that he didn't even go back to leave the bloody dagger with the guards, like what was planned. After killing such an innocent man, Macbeth began to go crazy. Everything he did became impulsive, violent, and done out of rage. He began to hurt anyone or anything that got in his way. I think that he begins to regret his decisions later on after he realizes he can't take anything back, but I also think he doesn't care anymore and he will do anything with no thought or filter.
Regret plays a role in a theme of the story in my opinion. I think that the theme that includes regret in this story is, stupid choices cause for stupid outcomes. A lot of Macbeth and the other members of the story along with Scotland would have had fewer problems if they had thought about their actions before choosing to act on them.

Macbeth Quote

"Help me hence, ho!" Act 2. SC. 3 pg.71 line 138

This small line of words said by Lady Macbeth are very important to the story in my opinion. All of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth's words that come out of their mouth are very crucial. They both have to be very careful of what they say, after killing Duncan. Lady Macbeth definitely thinks more before she speaks, whereas Macbeth says crazy things that are not good for keeping his secret. I think Macbeth needs to really filter what he is saying, because if I was Macduff, Malcolm, Donalbain, Banquo, or Lennox I would start to get suspicious.

The importance of this line is in the efforts of Lady Macbeth to save her husband from getting caught. Macbeth is going insane and not thinking about what is coming out of this mouth, while Lady Macbeth is trying to be very careful. In this particular scene Macbeth is saying random words that don't have any specific meaning, and everyones faces begin to have a puzzled look on them. Lady Macbeth notices that the others are catching on to the craziness coming out of her husbands mouth, and acts very quick. She knows that she has to do something to distract them and draw the attention away from her husband. She then begins to faint so that Macbeth will know to stop talking, and get everyone's attention on her.

I think there are many more of these situations to come, because Macbeth is still going crazy from his actions. Lady Macbeth is going to have to save Macbeth some more as the story keeps going on in my opinion.

Spring Break is my favorite time of the year! I love everything about it! The time it comes around, the weather, the trips, the clothes, and just every little thing about it. I usually get excited about going to the beach or any trip I have planned and waited all year for. But in fact I could be satisfied with just sitting at home and sleeping in the whole break. The break time off of school is just a perfect amount, and it really makes you want summer.

I went to Seaside, Florida for Spring Break. I eagerly waited for the time to leave for the beach and did the opposite when I had to leave to come home. The house that we stayed in was so beautiful and was right on the beach. The main street that runs from Watercolor to Seaside was right outside our front door. Lying at the beach was so relaxing and the trip overall rocked; I can't wait for next years Spring break!

Response to Statements

4. Who we are--our essential character and temperament--is fixed and unchangeable.

Everyone has a specific personality, and has their own character and temperament. There are some things about a person that you can't change. Any mistakes or things you do, you can't take back. For example, all of the people Macbeth has killed. He can be sympathetic and feel bad about that, but he can't change the fact that those people are dead, and that he did it. You can change your appearance and try your best to change your personality, but your character is true and will always stay the same. I believe that God specifically made each and every person his or her own way and that there is up to a point in somebody that you can't change. So I agree with this statement as well, because you can change yourself up to a point, but part of you is unchangeable.

5. Women are more compassionate and less violent than men.

I agree strongly with this statement, because in my opinion it is very true. Women are defiantly less violent than men. All men have a very defensive side to them as well as women but men’s defense is more violent in my opinion. Women are more sympathetic and more sensitive than most men. Macbeth is a very violent story so far. Specifically Macbeth shows his violent side as a man when he kills all the people who become a "threat" to him. So I strongly believe and agree with this statement.

Somewhere Over The Rainbow/What A Wonderful World

Somewhere Over the Rainbow / What A Wonderful World
By: Israel Kamakawiwo'ole
http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/israelkamakawiwoole/somewhereovertherainbowwhatawonderfulworld.html

I chose to select a song to annotate from when I was a kid, and one that everyone knows. I used to sing this song all the time, and I remember always belting the lyrics out at the top of my lungs while some family member played it on the guitar. This song has so much meaning through the lyrics, and I never had really connected it to poetry before. Now after learning about poetry I understand how they tie together.

The mood that is expressed in this poem in my opinion is being full of joy. This very happy song has poetic devices that I had not known until learning about the new lesson last week. For example, "Where trouble melts like lemon drops" is a metaphor and is personification. Those are two very familiar subjects that I have already known, but did not recognize them in the lyrics when I was singing.  Another would be "Blue birds fly" which is an example of alliteration. Alliteration is a new term that I recently learned, but I found it looking back at the song I caught sight of. The "B" in blue and birds contributes to the happy sound. Lastly I identified assonance in "Wonderful world", the "O" is a full song that also plays a factor into the happy and pleasant mood of the song. It is very remarkable to re-read over lyrics that I have known forever and notice these new poetic devices intertwined through the writing.

Rough Draft Response

I feel very confident in my rough draft. I think I am finally getting the hang of the research paper. I have to read the example in the Norton Field Guide a few times to help me out, but after reading that one and the student example online, I feel like I’m in a good spot. I have had trouble catching on to the concepts of how to write papers like a research one, but I think I’m finally getting it. I am mostly concerned with making sure everything is cited right.

I know we have gone over how to cite thousands of times, but I really get upset when I get points counted off for format or errors that I should have known already. Nothing was ever really easy in my opinion, but if you did good job on your note cards then that was a huge help. I had many note cards that were a huge help for my paper. I really thought it would be easy to copy and paste more stuff than I actually could. It was also hard overall to adapt to writing a big research paper. I really like help from both my peers and Dr. D. I always can really use just another view on my paper. I have trouble seeing my mistakes, so I like to see other people’s views. I would like Dr. D to focus on my quotes and paraphrases in my paper. I would also like to make sure all my format stuff is correct, before submitting it for my final.

Snow Day Free Post

During the Snow Days this past week I was relaxing a lot. With a lot of virtual school and homework to do, I didn't have that much time to do nothing. The icy roads and the low temperatures made me want to say inside, even though snow was on the ground. As a kid I used to like to go and play in the snow, but that was without the loads of homework and before I knew about Netflix. Mostly before I loved watching shows on Netflix and lying in bed.

Since I was with my friends on some of the snow days, I did work and Netflix. A lot of my friends watch this show called Teen Wolf, which I sometimes watch but is one of the shows that I was forced to watch in between breaks of doing homework. The breaks were short of course, because of the amount of work given to us. I think I ended up working more at home in virtual school than how much I would have worked at school. It ended up being better, because I could sleep longer and work later, which is what I prefer.

Post on Samurai Warriors 1/27/14

My topic is on the responsibilities of the samurai warriors. No. Not the killing Japanese people who get to do what ever they want. The Samurai had many responsibilities that were hard to keep up with. It is kind of a process like "survival of the fittest." The specific responsibilities are mentioned in the Bushido, which is a list of the Samurai responsibilities.

The responsibilities of the samurai were far more complex and extensive than one might think. The Samurai were very valuable for Japanese society, because of all the required responsibilities. When people think of a Samurai warrior they often picture a threatening, murdering Japanese soldier doing whatever they want. However, Samurai warriors had to follow a strict code of conduct, and with the privileges they had as Samurai warriors came much responsibility. The Bushido is the code of conduct, which goes into depth. The specific responsibilities are each described and mentioned through the text, where people can study and research at easy access.

Ellie as Katniss Everdeen

I’m Katniss right as the words “I volunteer” come out of my mouth. A cense of courageousness and boldness races through my veins. Part of me is, “I can’t believe I just did that, and the other is, “I can do this.” Looking at Primrose with pride that I just volunteered for her. That was all me. The nerves I was feeling were bipolar to say the least.

After walking on stage, and looking at all the people in my district staring at me, I was proud. Bundles of scary thoughts then popped in my mind. There was no way; I could leave mom, prim, and gale. I couldn’t win, the only thing I’m good at is shooting and you need more than that. From then on, I knew there was no way to take it back. I had to fight, and I had to win. I was going to never give up and fight until death.

Research on Samurai Warriors

My topic for the National History Day Project is the rights and responsibilities of the Samurai Warriors. It is going to be very hard to write a paper on something that has a lot of background. You have to know a lot of history about the Samurai to understand the specific rights and responsibilities. I think it is important to report on this specific topic, because it is sort of a part of history that is forgotten. I have never gotten an in depth research about the warriors and I think it is interesting to research and learn about.

Finding primary sources was difficult for me. I seem to only find secondary sources, so part of my research plan this week is to find more of those. It is also hard to make inferences from the information I learn and summarize it, when I don’t have as an experienced background on the information. I need to spend more time on evaluating and finding sources in my opinion. Lastly, organizing a schedule to work with will help me very much.
