Reading Response Divergent

I honestly don’t like summer reading. I never have and I thought I never would. It’s not that I don’t enjoy reading; it's just that it's in the summer and I want to be outside and not cocooned in a bed reading. Divergent was such an awesome book! I can’t even explain how much I was entertained by reading Divergent. Last year at the end when a few seniors came and spoke to us about summer reading for Freshman year, I was not looking forward to it therefore not really being attentive or listening to the stuff they had to say. When I first went to Barnes and Noble to buy my books, I picked up The Knife of Never Letting Go first and I was so disappointed of the amount of pages it had. I basically decided that I would spend half my summer reading this one, so I prayed Divergent was small. As I went down the aisle and finally came to a stop at the book, I couldn’t believe it. Divergent is double the size of The Knife of Never Letting Go, not really but it seemed like it at the time. I slowly grabbed a copy and slumped all the way over to the checkout line.

When I got home, I decided it was probably a good idea to start with the longer book so as the summer went on I could knock out the hardest or longest one first. I went into my room and read one chapter, and was already tired of reading. Of course the book was fabulous, but the tempting text tones I heard from my mom’s bedroom, where my phone was being kept, were intriguing me to stop reading. Days went on and it was getting too late, I was tanning with Audrey at her house and decided to start reading again. I couldn't put the book down after that and I finished it the next day. Overall, I really enjoyed the book and my mom is forcing me to read it with her again and I’m okay with it. I think Divergent was a great selection for Summer Reading, and I think more books like it should be picked to read in the future.
